Sony Updates NEX Lens Roadmap

Sony has updated its roadmap for E-mount lenses. Currently, the NEX system offers seven Sony and Zeiss branded lenses alongside a few recently announced Sigma, Tamron and Kenko/Tokina products. As this is a relatively narrow selection of optics. especially when compared to the dozens of lenses available for the system’s main rival, Micro Four Thirds, Sony has decided to introduce eight new lenses in the course of less than two years. On top of the wide zoom, high-performance standard zoom and medium telephoto lenses that were already on the roadmap, the company has now added a new standard zoom, a new superzoom, a large-aperture standard prime, a “mid-magnification zoom” and a pancake lens. This should bring the total number of E-mount Sony/Zeiss lenses to 15 by the end of 2013.

The specifications of the new lenses have not been released yet.

Kodak Focuses Consumer Business On More Profitable Growth Opportunities

Plans to phase out dedicated capture devices business

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 9 – Eastman Kodak Company (the “Company”) (OTB: EKDKQ.PK) announced today that, as a result of its ongoing strategic review process and commitment to drive sustainable profitability through its most valuable business lines, it plans to phase out its dedicated capture devices business – comprising digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames – in the first half of 2012. Kodak will instead expand its current brand licensing program, and seek licensees for cameras. Following this decision, Kodak’s Consumer Business will include online and retail-based photo printing, as well as desktop inkjet printing.

Kodak has contacted its retail partners, and is working closely with them to ensure an orderly transition. Kodak will continue to honor all related product warranties, and provide technical support and service for its cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames.

“For some time, Kodak’s strategy has been to improve margins in the capture device business by narrowing our participation in terms of product portfolio, geographies and retail outlets. Today’s announcement is the logical extension of that process, given our analysis of the industry trends,” said Pradeep Jotwani, President, Consumer Businesses, and Kodak Chief Marketing Officer.

In addition to its Consumer Businesses segment, Kodak has a Commercial Businesses segment that includes the Digital and Functional Printing, Enterprise Services and Solutions, and Graphics, Entertainment and Commercial Films units. Kodak’s digital businesses now comprise approximately three-fourths of total revenues.

Kodak continues to have a strong position in the personal imaging market.  While photos are increasingly taken on multi-function mobile devices, Kodak technology makes it easy for consumers to produce a broad range of photo products, anywhere, anytime – from prints to photobooks, photo greeting cards and personalized calendars. These items can be made on Kodak products, with Kodak quality at retail, at home, and ordered for delivery to home.

Kodak’s continuing consumer products and services will include:
• Retail-based photo kiosks and digital dry lab systems, a market in which Kodak is the clear worldwide leader. Kodak pioneered the retail-based kiosk market, and the company now has more than 100,000 kiosks and order stations for dry lab systems around the world, with some 30,000 of those units connected to the most popular photo-sharing sites.
• Consumer inkjet printers, where Kodak has outpaced overall market growth for several years. Kodak consumer inkjet printers provide consumers with high-quality output and the lowest total ink replacement cost. Consumers can send documents and photos to Kodak printers from anywhere, using any web-connected device.
• Kodak apps for Facebook, which make it easy for consumers to obtain photo products using photos from their Facebook albums.
• Kodak Gallery (http://www.kodakgallery.com), a leading online digital photo products service. Kodak Gallery enables consumers to share their photos, and offers product and creation tools that enable people to do more with their photos.
• The Kodak camera accessories and batteries businesses. These products are universally compatible with all camera brands, and extend into other consumer product segments such as charging units for smartphones.
• The traditional film capture and photographic paper business, which continues to provide high-quality and innovative products and solutions to consumers, photographers, retailers, photofinishers and professional labs.

Recently, Nikon announced a number of new digital compact cameras sporting all sorts of innovative features and technology. The Nikon Coolpix S4150 is no exception with an EXPEED C2 processor, 14 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, touch-screen interface, 720p HD video and subject tracking auto-focusing. As part of Nikon’s Stylish range, the S4150 certainly has the good looks to fit into the lineup with its curves and funky colours. The Nikon Coolpix S4150 costs around £180 and is available in black, silver, red and purple.

In terms of innovation, the Nikon Coolpix S4150 is one of the less interesting new models from the recent launch. That's not to say that it's a camera that should be swept under the carpet and forgotten about. In profile, the S4150 is a slim and pocketable model with curved ends that then bulk out to house the touch-screen LCD on the back. It would look nicer if the black plastic back wasn't present, to give the camera an ultra-thin exterior.

We're undecided on the two-tone paintwork. One half says that a one-colour model would look better but the half that stays up late watching Pimp My Ride likes the two-tone styling. The lens on the front of the Nikon Coolpix S4150 is pretty small despite the large bezel that surrounds it. A slim flash sits satisfyingly away from the glass to ensure a lack of red-eye whenever it's used. On the top, the two buttons for power and shutter release are small with a delicate zoom wrapped around the latter.

On the back, the design mocks the S6150 - a higher spec model - with three buttons situated down the right side of the 3 inch touch-screen. Above the top button is a small resting place for your thumb when you're taking pictures. There's no rubbery material to provide grip but there is a small raised area in the moulding of the case to catch onto.

The three buttons are for direct video recording, modes and playback. If you use the video recording button it will go straight into recording. Changing the resolution must be done in the menu on the screen. Zooming is possible when shooting video and in normal circumstances it can't be heard. However, when either end of the zoom range is reached, there's a clicking noise that can prove annoying after a while. Picture quality doesn't look too good even though it's HD quality,a lthough at 720p, it's not Full HD.

There are only 3 shooting modes on the Nikon Coolpix S4150 which are accessed by pressing the middle button on the back. You can choose from auto, scene modes or smart portrait. Auto mode gives the most options in the menu system and we found that it will cope with all but the most extreme modes.

There are two menus on screen which is part of Nikon's attempt to simplify their range of digital compact cameras. It has worked with the layout taking on a thumbnail approach. Both menus are opened using the touch-screen; one on the side and one on the bottom. On the side, the menu has only four options for flash, self-timer, macro and exposure compensation. On the bottom, the menu displays resolution, touch-screen AF options, ISO, white-balance, video resolution, video AF, wind noise reduction and an access to the Set-up menu.

Compared to other digital compact camera menus, the Nikon seems sparse. However, it appears that everything that a user needs is available. Remember, the S4150 is aimed at someone who only wants to point and shoot and won't know or care about expanding features. For that reason, it's actually quite an intelligent move on Nikon's part. It makes the S4150 more appealing to new comers to photography and the happy snapper crowd.

The Nikon Coolpix S4150 is built to a decent standard. It's not breaking any ground but the front is made of metal with a plastic back. The lens is a NIKKOR  type but doesn't feature any ED elements. That could cause problems with sharpness and chromatic aberration - our performance tests will show any of that up.

The touch-screen isn't the most sensitive we've used. The problem that any touch-screen has these days is that most people own a smart phone with an ultra-sensitive touch operation. Anything less than this and it feels lacking. The Nikon is nowhere near as sensitive as it could be. Reviewing images is a pain - especially when trying to delete selected pictures. We found that if you try to tap the picture to mark it for deletion, most times the pictures will keep scrolling and the picture won't be selected at all. Of course, that's using fingertips which is the most convenient way. The actual and most effective way is to use the touch pen that's included with the camera. Using this will avoid the previous issues, but we think it's rare that anyone will use it, especially on a night out.

The battery and memory card share the same compartment on the bottom of the S4150. The battery is a lithium-ion type EN-EL19 and also fits the Coolpix S3100, S100, S2500 and S2550. The cover to the battery compartment could be a bit stronger, but there's a metal plate to reinforce it and it does a good enough job. It flips out quite far compared to some other cameras which means it gets out of the way when retrieving the battery, but it's more susceptible to being caught.

The USB port is situated right next to the battery compartment. Being on the bottom of the camera poses a problem - it has to be laid on its back to be linked to the computer or charged. This increases the chances of scratching the screen, which is unfortunate. The S4150 can be charged directly from a computer if you need it to be.

Our tests of the shutter lag found that the Nikon Coolpix S4150 is a bit slower than other digital compact cameras. A typical lag is around 0.08 seconds, but the S4150 showed consistent real-life results of between 0.18 and 0.24 seconds. It sounds insubstantial but could be the difference between successfully capturing a baby smile or a dog turning away or missing the moment altogether.

The S4150 only has one drive mode which is located in the bottom menu on the screen. We managed to record 8 shots in 10 seconds giving  a continuous shooting speed of 1.2fps (frames per second). It's not a bad result for this type of camera and it's a continuous speed. Some cameras will spurt 3 or 4 pictures out in 1 second then slow down for the buffer to catch up.

The fastest we could get the Nikon Coolpix S4150 to start up and take a focused picture was 3.5 seconds. The actual start up time isn't that bad but if you press the shutter release button to focus and shoot before the camera is ready, it won't do anything.

To enter the playback menu, press the bottom button on the back of the S4150. The most recent picture you took will be displayed on the screen and you'll see a menu arrow at the bottom. To the right is a tab with a star on it. Here you can give your pictures star ratings to prioritise them and make them easier to find when you're looking for them on your computer using ViewNX. You can also view your favourite pictures by pressing the playback button again. We really like the idea of the auto sort mode in the same menu. It divides the pictures up depending on the mode you were in when you took the picture.

Erasing pictures on the Nikon Coolpix S4150 isn't an easy feat. The pictures scroll along nicely for you to look at them and deleting one or all is an easy enough thing to do. Erasing selected pictures can be difficult though. You have to scroll through the pictures by swiping the pen or your finger along the screen - much the same way you view pictures on a smart phone. To delete selected pictures simply tap the one you wish to delete and a small tick will appear in the top left corner. However, should you create any type of movement on the screen with the pen or your finger when selecting the picture, the camera assumes you wish to move onto the next picture. It took us 5 minutes to delete 55 pictures.

The documentation included in the Nikon Coolpix S4150 box includes the basics needed for getting you going. All the in-depth information is found on the user manual that's on the included CD. Another CD holds the ViewNX 2 software which is Nikon's tagging and basic editing program. You certainly don't need to install it, but if you don't have anything like it, it can make life easier. You also get the appropriate chargers which connect to the USB cable to reduce cables and allow charging from a computer.

There's also a USB cable for linking directly to a television, however the cables on the opposing end are analogue so you lose the digital video quality straight away. Also, there's only a white audio cable meaning the sound will be mono. Considering Nikon are pushing the video capability with stereo sound, they don't give you the option to see it out of the box.

It seems bad to end on a negative point, especially as the Nikon Coolpix S4150 is a nice little camera. There's plenty going for it features-wise so don't write it off until we've got through the image quality test.

Slim and Stylish DMC-FX80 with F2.5 Bright 24mm Ultra Wide Angle LEICA DC Lens1 - Superior Design and High Performance

Super Bright 24mm Ultra Wide Angle1 F2.5 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT Lens
The DMC-FX80 incorporates a high quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens that boasts excellent brightness of F2.5. The F2.5 lens is even brighter by approx. 25% than the F2.8 lens which is generally considered a bright lens. It allows the use of higher shutter speed but captures stunningly clear, sharp, blur-free images even in lower lighting situation. Together with the MEGA Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S). in the Intelligent Auto (iA) mode, the DMC-FX80 powerfully suppresses blur caused by the movement of subjects.

To further add to its appeal, the 24mm (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm ) ultra-wide-angle lens - rare on a compact camera - gives photographers a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The super-high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens minimizes distortion at the wide end. The lens especially excels not only in shooting dynamic landscapes with its wide angle of view but also in capturing moving subjects even in low-lit situations such as indoors or at night with its outstanding brightness.

Comprising of 6 elements in 5 groups with 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces, the lens unit in the DMC-FX80 realized downsizing of both total length and diameter to fit in the slim, compact body of the camera. This advanced lens unit passes Leica’s stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance with its minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations while suppressing ghosting and flaring.

The Intelligent Zoom is also available with the DMC-FX80. It is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom, however, you can even draw the subject 2x closer than the original optical zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology. This means the 5x optical can virtually extend to 10x equivalent.

High Speed CCD and Venus Engine Assure High Picture Quality
The 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as 1,920 x 1,080 full HD video recording and high speed continuous shooting. The picture quality is also improved thanks to the higher sensitivity which is made possible by highly efficient light condensation adoption larger on-chip micro lenses.

For the image processor, the Venus Engine FHD is incorporated that features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities featuring its Intelligent Noise Reduction.  The multi-task image-processing engine Venus Engine supports a super-fast response time which makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the Sonic Speed AF (Auto Focus) that lets you lock on the subject. The LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens, high resolution CCD and the high performance Venus Engine assure high quality image rendering.

Technically specified, yet remaining easy to use, the FX80 features Panasonic’s popular iA mode which lets users leave everything to the camera to take beautiful photos and videos. Once you enter the iA mode, all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions - MEGA O.I.S., AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure - are automatically activated by turning on the iA mode. Perfect!

A Host of Functions Expand The Fun of Photography with Smart Touch Control
Featuring a 3.0-inch LCD with Smart Touch Screen, complete control is possible with a simple touch. Auto Focus is immediately set to the subject by just touching it on the large LCD and you can even release the shutter. Once you lock on the subject by a touch, the camera tracks the subject with the AF tracking function even if it moves.

Panasonic’s DMC-FT20 With A Casual Stylish Rugged Design

Featuring HD Video Recording and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode

Expanding its popular FT series of cameras designed for active outdoor use, Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new DMC-FT20. The new 16.1-megapixel DMC-FT20 further strengthens its toughness credentials, being waterproof to 5m and now freezeproof to -10 degrees C plus shockproof to 1.5m and with dustproof reliability. Stylish and rugged, with the picture quality you’d expect from Panasonic, the FT20 is ideally suited for active families and everyday use.

Built to Withstand the Pressures of Daily Active Shooting
The DMC-FT20 is waterproof1 to a depth of 5m and dustproof equivalent to the “IPX8” and “IP6X” standard – making it perfect for use at the beach, in the sea, biking, walking and even skiing and snowboarding. Waterproofing means users can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries – so now there’s no reason not to record your adventures whether it’s rain, snow or shine!

Thanks to rubber padding and reinforced glass and carbon resins inside the camera, the FT20 features an airtight body protected against water immersion, dust and sand. The FT20 is drop proof2 from a height up to 1.5m in accordance with the “MIL-STD 810F Method516.5-Shock” test standard. The lens unit is protected by a supplementary damper to absorb the force from shock impact. All components including the lens unit are re-examined to endure the temperature as low as -10 degrees C to make the FT20 freezeproof.

The FT20 is a camera to be enjoyed, not to fret over. Want to capture images of your little one paddling at the beach but worried about sand and water damaging the camera? Or maybe you’re a keen biker who loves rough terrain but are worried about the dust and the effect of falling off your bike on the camera? Fear not, the FT20 is as happy in the water, on the beach or rough terrain as it is at home taking shots in the comfort of your lounge.

Looking at the Lens
The 16.1-megapixel DMC-FT20 features a newly developed 25mm ultra wide angle 4x optical zoom lens. The folded optics method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. Comprising 11 elements and a prism unit in 10 groups, including an ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 9 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit renders high resolution image corner to corner even adopting the folded optics. 25mm ultra wide angle of view enables shooting dynamic landscapes or group portrait without letting them protrude out of a frame. The 4x optical zoom increases its power to 8x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

Capture 720p HD Video Recording in MP4
The DMC-FT20 records dynamic HD video3 in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30p (NTSC) 25p (PAL) in MP4 format which has high compatibility with PCs or smartphones for editing or sharing the videos. The recorded videos can be directly uploaded to YouTube. The DMC-FT20 incorporates a dedicated video button to switch between photo and video recording quickly. The 4x optical zoom is also available in video recording as well as Active Mode that minimizes hand shake even when the video is recorded while walking.

iA Mode for Effortless Images Every Time
Panasonic incorporated the iA (Intelligent Auto) mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. All of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions – MEGA O.I.S., AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure – are automatically activated by just activating the iA mode. Thanks to the iA mode, users can focus on having fun, rather than worrying about setting the camera.

The Miniature Effect mode in which the edge of shot is defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized creating a model or toy town effect. Panorama Shot makes it is possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.

The FT20 features a 2.7inch Intelligent LCD with High Angle mode, ensuring images are easy to view outdoors. Once you’ve taken your shots, users can enjoy their communication with the LUMIX Image Uploader, which realizes instant image sharing via Facebook or YouTube with any PC on the spot.

Rugged Design Profile with Advanced GPS for Powerful Outdoor Use

Introducing the LUMIX DMC-FT4

Catering for those looking for a versatile and durable camera that can confidently take shots under pressure, Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new DMC-FT4 to its rugged design FT series especially geared for active outdoor use. Featuring outstanding toughness to be waterproof to 12m, shockproof to 2m, freezeproof to -10 degrees C and dustproof reliability, the DMC-FT4 is equipped with built-in GPS system with over a million place names information, compass, altimeter and barometer for users who enjoy active outdoor adventures.

The DMC-FT4 is a tough camera, but don’t be fooled into thinking that’s all it is. The FT4 does not compromise on picture quality with high picture quality achieved thanks to the LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens in folded optics, 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor and the advanced image processing LSI Venus Engine. Bold and rugged, yet intricately designed the FT4 is the perfect outdoor, active camera.

Waterproof and Dustproof1
Impressively specified, the DMC-FT4 is waterproof to a depth of 12m and dustproof equivalent to the “IPX8” and “IP6X” standard. Thanks to rubber padding and reinforced glass inside the camera, the DMC-FT4 features an airtight body protected against water immersion, dust and sand. With the minimum apertural area, the DMC-FT4 boasts even higher tightness of sealing to withstand pressure in underwater as deep as 12m. For those deep sea divers or scuba divers, when coupled with the optional DMW-MCFT3 Marine Case, the FT3 is waterproof to 40m – so there’s no limit to your underwater photography!

Drop Proof and Freezeproof2
The DMC-FT4 is drop proof from a height up to 2.0m in accordance with the “MIL-STD 810F Method516.5-Shock” test standard. In addition to reinforcing the exterior of the camera with shock-resistant material, the DMC-FT4 uses folded optics to prevent its lens unit from taking damage when dropped during operation. The lens unit is protected by a supplementary damper to absorb the force from shock impact. All components including the lens unit are reexamined to endure the temperature as low as -10 degrees C to make the DMC-FT4 freezeproof.

With its waterproof, dustproof, drop proof and freezeproof capabilities, the FT4 opens up a realm of photographic opportunities. Where users had previously not been confident to take the camera, such as the beach, the sea, skiing and boating to name but a few – the FT4 can confidently accompany users on their travels and adventures and capture those treasured moments.

Equipped with GPS
With a clever GPS3 function, the DMC-FT4 shows the name of the Country/Region, State/Prov./County, County/Township, City/Town/Village and Landmark using the internal data to give users real-time information of the place when taking photos to add fun of photo shooting during travel. The area information covers 203 countries or regions for global use. Plus, more than 1,000,000 of landmark information covers 82 countries or regions. The photos and videos with the location names are automatically sorted in the virtual folder alphabetically in the camera allowing quick reach. You can also refer to the location names via the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO 8.1 Advanced Edition. It is also easy to sort or search images by the location names. The internal clock of the camera is automatically adjusted to the local time of the place where the camera is, so you do not have to set the clock manually whether you go abroad or come back home.

Panasonic’s FT series are specifically designed for active outdoor use, utilising a compass, altimeter and even barometer to show and record altitude, barometric pressure and orientation data. The barometer also works for indicator for depth underwater. The altitude gains higher accuracy by using GPS data with DMC-FT4. The altimeter log is available which helps users to forecast the climate and the log of barometric trend tells how high he/she was. The rugged design, GPS and the advanced measuring equipments offers a variety of fun in wide-ranging situations. Take out the camera to fishing or camping in the springtime, to diving, snorkelling, surfing in summer, or mountain climbing in autumn and to skiing or snowboarding in winter - the DMC-FT4 is an all-year-round active field player to record stunning memories in beautiful photo and video.

Feature Packed and Technically Specified
The DMC-FT4 incorporates a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-128mm). The folded optics of shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. Comprising 10 elements and a prism unit in 8 groups, including 1 ED lens and 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces passing the Leica’s stringent standards to deliver exceptional optical performance to the edges.

Thanks to the newly incorporated Intelligent Resolution technology, the Intelligent Zoom is available with the DMC-FT4 which extends the zoom ratio by approx. 2x maintaining the picture quality even when combining the digital zoom. This means the 4.6x optical can virtually extend to 9.3x equivalent, so you can be sure to zoom in on those action shots.

The 12.1-megapixel CCD with 2-channel signal output structure boasts higher signal transfer speed for the operations that require high performance and speed such as 1920x1080 full-HD video recording and high speed continuous shooting. The picture quality is beyond that of standard rugged design digital compact cameras thanks to the higher sensitivity which is made possible by highly efficient light condensation adoption larger on-chip micro lenses.

For the image processor, the Venus Engine is incorporated that features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities featuring its Intelligent Noise Reduction.  Linking smoothly with the Hi-Speed CCD sensor, the Venus Engine processes a large amount of signals at high speed, making it possible to record full-HD video recording and high resolution consecutive shots at 3.7 fps in 12.1-megapixel full resolution and max.10 fps at 3-megapixel recording.

At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine realizes a super-fast response time. The Sonic Speed AF and the camera’s quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities – perfect for active adventurers.

Record in 1,920 x 1,080 Full-HD in AVCHD / MP4 Format
Not only can the FT4 capture stunning still photos, and despite its compact profile, the DMC-FT4 is capable of recording full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL) videos in AVCHD (MPEG-4 / H.264) format4. The AVCHD format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc players. A special, separate button on the top lets the user instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to make any extra settings. Alternately, user can choose MP4 at 30p(NTSC) / 25p(PAL) for video recording, which has higher compatibility with PCs.

For more effective countermeasure against blur, the Active Mode is newly equipped with DMC-FT4 for an option of image stabilization in video recording. In addition to the POWER O.I.S., the Active Mode encourages active video recording at wide angle such as shooting while walking without deterioration of the image quality. The 4.6x optical zoom is available in video recording. The popular iA (Intelligent Auto) is also available in video recording.

Utilising its strong heritage in digital video cameras, Panasonic has equipped the FT4 with the high-quality stereo sound of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator, to offer highly realistic sound to the motion images.

A Host of Functions Expand The Fun of Photography
With its high usability thanks to its tough design, high picture quality, and ability to record full HD video, the FT4 ticks all the boxes for the active user. Continuing to go one step further, Panasonic has included 3 new shooting modes - Time Lapse Shot, Miniature Effect and Panorama Shot - to expand the fun and creativity of photography.

With the Time Lapse Shot, once the start time, the interval and the number of picture to shoot are set, the camera automatically record images. You can leave the camera and get a record of stationary observation for subjects such as flowers coming into bloom, scudding cloud, wild animals in nature.

The Miniature Effect mode in which the peripherals are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized to look the picture like a diorama. The video recorded in this mode is played back in 10x fast-forwarding making it more comical to watch5. Panorama Shot makes it is possible to shoot a maximum 360-degree of horizontal / vertical panoramic image with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous picture.

Let the Camera Do The Hard Work With iA Mode or Take Control with the Manual Mode
The FT4 features Panasonic’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) mode which lets users leave everything to the camera to take beautiful photos and videos. Once you enter the iA mode, all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions – MEGA O.I.S., AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure – are automatically activated by just activating the iA mode. For those who wish to set the shutter speed and aperture themselves, the FT4 has added manual operation for more creative freedom.

However the photos are captured, users can rest assured that thanks to the 2.7inch LCD with AR Coating, images are effortlessly easy to viewback outdoors, so there’s no reason not to check images instantly and re-take if you need to!

With its tough body and rugged design, the FT4 is fully equipped for outdoor adventures in any season – whether it’s diving, snorkelling, surfing, climbing, skiing, snowboarding or camping – the FT4 will deliver and ensure you have a memory to treasure. With superb photo and video recording in an extremely tough body, the FT4 will be available in a choice of black, blue, white or orange.

You can also add more personality to your movies thanks to the LUMIX TZ30’s High Speed Video mode which lets you capture super slow-motion videos where you can playback effects that cannot be seen with the naked eye, while 3D mode will allow you to produce high quality 3D still images without additional accessories

Whatever style suits: Available in five different colours (black, brown, red, white and silver), there is a LUMIX TZ30 to suit every style and taste

Panasonic Press Release

The Smart and Easy 14.1-megapixel LUMIX DMC-LS6

Featuring O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode

Taking pictures has never been so simple thanks to Panasonic’s new 14.1-megapixel LUMIX DMC-LS6 that features a high quality 26mm wide angle, 5x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equiv: 26-130mm) with F2.8 brightness and O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer). Running on AA batteries, the DMC-LS6 offers an easy-to-hold grip and is fashionably styled with the colour of the lens ring matching the body colour.

Impressive Specification, Yet Still Inherently Easy To Use
The DMC-LS6 boasts a 26mm wide angle, 5x optical zoom high quality lens. The 26mm wide angle lens captures approx. 181% larger viewing space compared with that of standard 35mm camera, which excels in shooting vast landscapes or many subjects even at a short distance indoors. The 5x optical zoom draws subjects close without deterioration of image quality unlike using a digital zoom. A lens with F2.8 brightness is notable in this class of camera, and helpful to capture clear images even in dimly lit situations like nighttime or indoors.

The 14.1-megapixel large image sensor offers high resolution images so that it is still possible to crop the part you want to enlarge out of the picture even after shooting.

O.I.S. and iA Mode for Maximum Results and Minimum Fuss
For those looking for their first digital camera, Panasonic’s LS6 is the perfect option. Packed with features, such as Panasonic’s Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S) that is renowned for its high correction performance against blur caused by a hand-shake, the LS6 really has been designed with users in mind.  With the most frequent cause of misshot in any camera being handshake, Panasonic believes that O.I.S is indispensable for any LUMIX camera – whether it’s a high end, mind range or entry level camera.  In contrast with the digital image stabilizer which is often found in this class of cameras, the optical image stabilizer compensates for the hand-shake more effectively without deterioration of image quality.

In addition to this O.I.S., LUMIX’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) powerfully assists in any shooting situation to get the best result. For example, human faces are captured in focus and appropriate exposure with the Face Detection. Unwanted red-eyes are digitally corrected and backlight compensation automatically activates if they happen. Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects whichever of 5 Scene Modes - Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, Night Scenery - that best suits the shooting situation.  Every user can get all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions at a time to enjoy capturing clear, beautiful photos with ultimate ease.

Enjoy HD Video Recording and Share it Effortlessly
The new DMC-LS6 even records dynamic HD video in 1,280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to the standard VGA (640 x 480) and QVGA (320 x 240). It is enjoyable to view the video footage as well as the photos on the wide-screen HDTV. Those recorded on the SD Memory Card are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV by simply inserting it into the “VIERA Image Viewer”, a built-in SD Memory Card slot on VIERA TV, to playback your contents.

Designed with users in mind, it is also possible to sort and archive the images via a bundled software PHOTOfunSTUDIO Ver. 6.0 and upload them to the social networking services Facebook or YouTube on the sideways.

With the LS6, users can have confidence that they can capture the moments that matter with ease. The perfect camera for everyday use, the DMC-LS6 will be available in a choice of black, silver and pink.

PRESS RELEASE: PANASONIC INTRODUCES ULTRA-SLIM LUMIX DIGITAL CAMERAS WITH 10X OPTICAL ZOOM AND WIDE-ANGLE LEICA LENS
New LUMIX SZ7 and SZ1 Digital Cameras Offer HD Video and 25mm Wide-Angle Lens in a Compact Body Designed to be Portable and Easy-To-Use

LAS VEGAS, NV (January 9, 2012) – Panasonic today introduced the new LUMIX SZ-Series of digital cameras, the LUMIX DMC-SZ7 and the LUMIX DMC-SZ1, which combine a powerful 10x optical zoom with a 25mm ultra-wide angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens, in a slim and compact body, making it extremely portable and easy to carry.  The LUMIX SZ7 (14.1 megapixels) can also shoot full-High Definition, 1920 x 1080 60i videos and with Light Speed AF, it has a super-fast focus response time of approximately 0.1 second – making it easy to capture spontaneous must-have photos. The LUMIX SZ1 (16.1 megapixels) features 720p HD video recording capabilities, and both models are easy to use thanks to Panasonic’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) mode which automatically chooses the best camera settings for natural, beautiful images.

“As more and more people revert to their smartphones because of convenience to take spur-of-the-moment digital photos, Panasonic is introducing two digital cameras that are not only small and compact, but also offer high-end imaging features such as a wide-angle LEICA lens, extremely fast Auto Focus speeds, and High Definition video, giving the consumer outstanding image quality,” said David Briganti, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Marketing Company of North America. “Panasonic’s SZ7 and SZ1 are extremely compact in size, but offer features that are typically only available in much larger digital cameras, such as a 10x optical zoom, and with new features such as Panorama Shot and Miniature Effect, the SZ-Series is also fun to use.”

The LUMIX SZ7 and LUMIX SZ1 feature two new shooting modes – Miniature Effect and Panorama Shot.  In Miniature Effect mode, the peripherals are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized to make the picture like a diorama. Video recorded in Miniature Effect mode is played back in 10x fast-forwarding, making it comical and fun to watch*1. Panorama Shot makes it possible to shoot a horizontal or vertical panoramic image by taking consecutive shots and then overlaying the photos for the effect of a panoramic photo.   Furthermore, both the LUMIX SZ7 and LUMIX SZ1 feature Creative Retouch which includes six filters -Toy Effect, Soft Focus Dynamic Monochrome, Expressive, High Key and Retro, each of which give the photo a more artistic look.  Both models also feature an Auto Retouch function that adjusts contrast and brightness to give the photo a different look – all with a single press of the button.

To help ensure the LUMIX SZ7 and SZ1 are easy to use, both digital cameras feature Panasonic’s popular iA (Intelligent Auto) mode. In iA mode, a suite of technologies are automatically engaged and the camera chooses the best setting based on the shooting environment. For instance, iA includes the new High Dynamic Range (on the SZ7 only), Intelligent Handheld Nightshot (on the SZ7 only) and Motion Deblur (on the SZ7 only) together with AF Tracking, Intelligent ISO Control, MEGA O.I.S., Face Recognition (on the SZ7 only)/Face Detection (on the SZ1 only), Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent Exposure.

Other features of the new LUMIX SZ-Series include:
3.0-inch Intelligent LCD that automatically adjusts the backlight based on the environment’s lightingThe LUMIX SZ7 features a MOS sensor to support full-HD video, while the LUMIX SZ1 features a CCD sensorUSB power charging in addition to the conventional AC power supply 3D Photo Mode allows the user to take 20 panning shots and then the camera automatically selects the two most suitable images – one for the right eye and one for the left eye – to synthesize a 3D composite.  Available on the LUMIX SZ7 onlyDedicated video record button which lets users instantly start recording a video without having to make any extra settings. Additionally, the full 10x optical zoom is available in video recording modeHigh-quality stereo sound via Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator accompanies the realistic HD videos. Samsung's new trio of Wi-Fi cameras

Samsung revolutionizes travel photography with Wi-Fi-enabled long-zoom series
Las Vegas – Jan 9, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the launch of a new range of Wi-Fi enabled travel zoom cameras. The WB850F, WB150F, and ST200F cameras enhance the advanced optical zoom and image quality that the WB line of cameras are known for, with Wi-Fi capability to facilitate sharing and saving images – wherever users are in the world. Housed in compact, light and durable bodies, the new zoom series from Samsung make the perfect travel companions.
Samsung’s innovative new SMART Wi-Fi technology aims to change the way consumers take pictures, share and store them. With the new Samsung SMART long-zoom cameras, users no longer have to worry about unearthing a tangle of cables to transfer their images over to their hard drive by using the Auto Backup function. They can also take advantage of integrated free storage space from Samsung’s AllShare Play and Microsoft® Sky Drive® to make their photo accessible anywhere.
Of course, one of the best parts of discovering new places and cultures is sharing experiences with friends and family back home. With the Wi-Fi capability of the new Samsung SMART long-zoom cameras, sharing is quicker and easier than ever. From any Wi-Fi hotspot, users can email photos or share them on social networks such as Facebook and Picasa or post videos to YouTube in a few simple steps. The WB850F also uses GPS features and Live Landmark to enhance the user’s journeys, enabling them to download maps and find out information on nearby locations with the touch of a button. The camera’s Digital Compass can also give users their location and tell them how far they are from certain locations, while the MapView function allows users to download maps and use their camera to help explore new cities.
Similar to their WB predecessors, the WB850F, WB150F and ST200F make it easy to capture incredible detail through their zoom lenses, making it simple to get up-close shots that were once out of reach. The WB850F features a 21x optical zoom – Samsung’s best yet. The WB150F features an impressive 18x optical super zoom and the ST200F includes a 10x optical zoom lens. In order to capture the detail at its best, all travel zoom models feature upwards of 12 Megapixel sensors (16.2 Megapixels on the WB850F and 14.2 Megapixels on the WB150F). The WB850F also features pioneering BSI CMOS sensor technology to reduce image noise and distortion, even in low light conditions. This crystal-clear detail can then be experienced in all its clarity on the 3.0” VGA AMOLED screen featured on both models.
“Taking photographs and sharing them with friends and family is one of the most enjoyable aspects of travelling,” said Mr. Myoung Sup Han, senior vice president and head of the digital imaging business at Samsung Electronics. “It’s about more than simply capturing memories – it’s an integral part of the experience itself. Listening to our customers, we discovered that being able to conserve memory and share images instantly was what was missing from the high-quality cameras that they trust. With this in mind, we added ground-breaking Wi-Fi functions to our travel zoom series, building on the brilliant image quality that high-quality sensors and zoom lenses provide with the ability to store and share like never before.”
Share unforgettable scenes in Full HD
Whether filming at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro or from a vantage point atop the world’s highest buildings, Samsung travel zoom cameras mean users can share their video in HD. The WB850F captures awesome detail in 1080/30p Full HD and 1080/60i for spectacular scenery shots. The WB150F and ST200F feature fantastic 720/30p HD recording, ensuring that once-in-a-lifetime experiences are captured in the same color and vibrancy that existed in real life.
Make any picture come to life with Motion Photo
With Motion Photo, users can make one element of a normal photograph come to life and keep moving while the rest of the frame stays still, such as a friend walking through a crowd of what appear to be statues or a solitary tree bending in the breeze. And with the ST200F, instant in-camera editing along with Wi-Fi allow users to share images immediately without ever needing a computer.
Making it easy to get the best shot
With the new travel zoom cameras, it’s up to the user how to get the best shot. On the WB850F and WB150F, one can explore their own photographic skills with the Full Manual Control setting, also taking advantage of the optical image stabilization (OIS) (available on all models - WB850F, WB150F and ST200F). Alternatively, the Smart Auto setting, available on all the new models, identifies and automatically selects the most appropriate of its scene modes to provide users with the best possible result every time. From a fireworks display to a dimly-lit party, scene detection technology identifies the shooting conditions and automatically tailors the settings to help achieve standout results.
Live Panorama to get everyone in the shot!
Live Panorama, featured on the WB850F, WB150F and ST200F, allows consumers to capture even more of the action, facilitating wide panoramic shots which don’t miss any of the detail, from sprawling mountain peaks through to large groups of friends. The function allows the easy capture of large scenes by simply holding down the shutter button and sweeping the camera across. Users can even preview the whole scene they’ve just captured via the LCD screen.
Fun features to add a twist to your travels
With Split Shot, camera users can divide the screen into three separate shots and create up to three different photographs by simply blending them together to create a whole new view of their travels. Using Magic Frame they can also position their target in the middle of a fun background – either choose from one of the many pre-designed backgrounds like movie billboards or posters or erase part of an existing picture to get even more creative! Or use the Picture-in-Picture feature to insert a photo – whether an eye-catching monument or personal portrait into another image or video so users can combine their favorite shots to make a memorable collage. Finally, users can also bend, stretch, and warp pictures of friends and family for big laughs — with the Funny Face feature. Simply press the 5-direction key to enlarge heads or noses, or create hilarious distortions. When they move the camera, Face Tracking preserves the funny looks just the way they want them.
